With the desire to live your life through a screen becoming more popular, games which present a skewed view of reality have really taken off. First there was Rollercoaster World, Sim City and Lemonade Stand on PCs, but now you can create your own world in the palm of your hand. One of the latest examples of these faux-reality games is Style Boutique for the Nintendo DS. Hit “see more” to see if it’s hit or shit, and have your say too.
The aim of the game is simple: climb your way up the Boutique ladder from sales assistant to Queen of the Universe (OK, that may not be your official title, but I’m guessing it’s a reasonable equivalent.) Working your way up the fashion game, you have to help choose outfits from a range of over 10,000 stylish options for potential customers who are profiled to you. One customer, Zoe, had a budget of £2000 (for one piece of clothing. Oh, to be a rich virtual character!) loved elegant things and owned ten cats. I’m not sure how this was meant to aid me in working out her fashion sense, but I worked on the ‘Rich Cat Lady’ angle and found her a truly fabulous outfit, Darling.
