Underground Fighting (2009)

The first rule of fight club is: you do not talk about fight club. The second rule of fight club is: you DO NOT play video games that desperately want to be fight club
Polish funsters Pay-Publishing have attempted to produce a game where you beat up other people for the hell of it. In that way they’ve succeeded.
Underground fighting really immerses you in a sense of tacky wonderment. The game contains no less and no more than 6 playable characters, ranging from the usual suspects, Metaloholic (based on Tommy Lee), homie (based on Eminem) and knuckle buster (based on Stephen Fry). No further level of customization is possible, although changing “new” to your own name is strangely liberating.
The music was curiously turned off by default. This turns out to be a stroke of genius on the publisher’s part. I don’t know if this is traditional Polish music but I don’t think that Vaudevillian thrash j-rock gets teenagers jumping in the discothèque. Turning off certain questionable elements in the hope that people don’t discover the on button should be a more common occurrence. Unfortunately blind mode hasn’t been implemented yet but dumb mode certainly has.
